Pangolin Photo Safaris, a proud member of the Hospitality Association of Namibia, is delighted to announce the launch of a pioneering new chapter in sustainable wildlife tourism. In July 2025, the company introduced the “Pangolin Voyager,” an innovative solar-powered houseboat that will operate on the Chobe River in Botswana. This incredible vessel represents a remarkable leap forward in eco-friendly safari accommodations, combining comfort, cutting-edge sustainability, and unparalleled wildlife photography experiences.
The Pangolin Voyager offers five spacious cabins, capable of accommodating up to eight guests, providing an intimate and exclusive immersion into one of Africa’s richest wildlife habitats. What truly sets this vessel apart is its groundbreaking solar energy system, which powers the entire houseboat without relying on traditional generators. This silent, emission-free power source enhances wildlife viewing by minimising disturbances and environmental impact.
Equipped with electric outboard motors developed by the UK-based RAD Propulsion, the Pangolin Voyager stands as one of Africa’s first zero-emission houseboats. The quiet propulsion system allows guests to navigate the Chobe River discreetly, enabling close wildlife encounters that are perfect for photography without causing disturbance.
Toby Jermyn, co-owner of Pangolin Photo Safaris, expresses the company’s vision for this vessel: “The Pangolin Voyager embodies our commitment to creating truly sustainable wildlife experiences without compromising luxury or photographic potential. Harnessing solar power and electric propulsion not only reduces our carbon footprint but also enriches the safari experience through quieter approaches and extended viewing times in prime locations.”
True to Pangolin’s photography-centric ethos, the Voyager is accompanied by a dedicated electric photo boat with rotating seats and camera mounts, designed to optimise photographic opportunities in the Chobe region’s diverse ecosystems. Photographers aboard will benefit from professional camera equipment, expert photo hosts, and the ability to spend extended time in ideal lighting conditions without noise or fuel concerns.
Emphasising its commitment to conservation, Pangolin Photo Safaris underscores the importance of responsible tourism in Africa’s delicate environments. The clean energy system includes substantial battery storage, ensuring continuous operations even on overcast days, and powers all onboard facilities including air conditioning and photography equipment stations.
As a proud member of the Hospitality Association of Namibia, Pangolin Photo Safaris is honoured to support and promote sustainable tourism initiatives that benefit both wildlife and local communities.
The Pangolin Voyager will offer exclusive photographic safari voyages ranging from three to five nights, departing from Kasane Airport with all-inclusive accommodation, photographic excursions, and expert instruction.
