Advocating for Sustainable Tourism in Namibia’s Zambezi Region – Simone Micheletti

Namibia’s vibrant tourism industry is enriched by passionate advocates, among them, Simone Micheletti, a valued member of the Hospitality Association of Namibia’s Executive Committee (HAN Exco). Simone’s journey and dedication to sustainable tourism make him an inspiring individual both within the industry and beyond.

From West Africa to Namibia’s Zambezi Region

Born and raised in West Africa, Simone’s early life was shaped by diverse cultures and environments. He pursued his studies in Design in Milan, Italy, before making Namibia his home in 2007. Since then, he has been based in the Zambezi Region, where his love for the country’s natural beauty has only deepened.

A Career Rooted in Tourism and Conservation

Simone’s start in the tourism industry began in 2010 with the establishment of Nkasa Lupala Tented Lodge, an initiative that reflects his commitment to eco-friendly and community-centred tourism. His work has been instrumental in showcasing the unique landscapes and rich biodiversity of the Zambezi Region.

Passion Beyond Tourism

Outside of his professional pursuits, Simone is passionate about photography and watercolour painting. These creative outlets allow him to capture and celebrate Namibia’s stunning landscapes, from the vibrant floodplains to the serene desert vistas.

What Makes Namibia Special to Simone?

He cherishes two things most about Namibia: its breathtaking natural beauty and the peaceful environment that offers a sanctuary for both wildlife and people. His favourite destination is the Chobe-Zambezi floodplain during flood times, a spectacular, yet lesser-known natural wonder. He also holds a special fondness for the NamibRand area, especially just after the rains, when the landscape bursts into life.

Vision for Sustainable Tourism in Namibia

Simone’s hopes for Namibia’s tourism future are grounded in unity and sustainability. He envisions a tourism industry that is more united and deeply committed to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). His ambition is to be remembered as an ambassador for these goals, supporting responsible tourism that benefits communities and conserves the environment.

Why Join the Hospitality Association of Namibia as member?

He encourages future members to join HAN to ensure consistent advocacy with all stakeholders, fostering an improved and supportive tourism working environment. His own involvement with the HAN Exco began when he was invited to serve as the voice and focal point for the Zambezi Region in national tourism affairs, a role he embraced wholeheartedly out of his passion for his region and country.
